Program GoalsAccelerated Math and Science Program Entrance Exam Dates are in April every year. Please contact the school for the exact days and times of the exams. It provides students with the opportunity to pursue Common Math 10 and Science 10 while still in junior high school. Course requirements are rigorous, and students may be required to spend more time with course work or class preparation. Credits in the Common Math 10 and Science 10 courses will be assigned retroactively by Alberta Education once the student has successfully completed the subsequent Grade 11 or 20 level Math or Science course in their chosen High School. Admission CriteriaAdmission to the program will be based on the following criteria:
A selection committee composed of Accelerated Math and Science teachers and the school administration will review each student’s application. Based on the ADMISSION CRITERIA, the top students will be chosen for the program based on the class size restrictions and guidelines provided by Edmonton Catholic Schools in conjunction with Alberta Education class size requirement guidelines. Program Eligibility CriteriaOnce a student has been accepted into the program, their eligibility will be reviewed on an on-going basis. Student eligibility is also contingent on a positive annual Teacher recommendation. The school will provide opportunities for students to move into or out of the accelerated programs based on the ADMISSION AND PROGRAM ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA. Student performance and program recommendations will be reviewed and made at each reporting period. In order to ensure a student meets the programming requirements, most changes will be made during the 1st s school reporting period (September to November). Demonstration of good work habits, task commitment and positive attitude are prerequisites for continuing in the program. Students exhibiting behavior detrimental to their progress or the progress of the group may be required to move from the accelerated program to the regular program. Please contact the school for the exact days and times of the exams. *Exam length is approximately 2 hours The Accelerated Math and Science Program Entrance Exams are based on identified Alberta Education Key Learning outcomes from the grade 6 and 7 Program of Studies in the corresponding courses.
