Special Education District Programs

Special Education

The District is taking steps to align with Alberta Education’s Action on Inclusion focus on programming for students with special needs within their community schools. The initiative’s vision statement promotes “one inclusive education system where each student is successful.” Inclusion is always the first priority for the Edmonton Catholic School District and these changes reflect continued movement in this direction for the future.

As of September 2010, our District has not made new placements for students with mild and moderate special needs into segregated District programs. Special needs students with mild/moderate disabilities currently in District programs may continue in the programs until they graduate. With fewer programs, this will mean a consolidation of programs throughout the District so students will remain in the program but may be at a different school.

Inclusive Programming consultants will continue to evaluate and place students with severe needs into the EE1, PDP, PTP and STEPPS programs as the need arises.
